Gu fusion turns low Gu into higher ones; reverse fusion runs the other way, turning a high Gu back into a lower form. Custody sits with the clan leader, not the wider clan. Each generation he lets in exactly one elder, the one he trusts most, and no one beyond those two, Fang Yuan included, holds the secret. Fang Yuan ranks its worth above the ordinary rank four and rank five recipes, which he cannot browse that day either.
