Green bamboo wine

In Gu Yue Village only one inn sells green bamboo wine, while three taverns sell common rice wine, muddy wine, and similar cheap liquor. A jar costs two primeval stones, about two months of ordinary household expenses. When uncorked, a refreshing and mellow fragrance fills the room. ^{ch. 12}

Green bamboo wine is called the Gu Yue Village’s number one wine. Fang Yuan drips it through the bamboo forest at night so its aroma can draw a Liquor worm. ^{ch. 13}

Narration calls the wine really rich and the best on Qing Mao Mountain, and credits its aroma as the biggest reason the Liquor worm comes to Fang Yuan that night. ^{ch. 16}

A jar supports a Liquor worm for about four days. The worm can live on turbid wine or rice wine, but those second-rate wines demand many jars each day, so Fang Yuan buys green bamboo wine instead as both thrift and cover. The inn’s stock is limited; caravans conventionally buy it out, which threatens long-term feeding if jars run short. ^{ch. 23}

After a caravan visit the inn sells out. Fang Yuan takes rice wine for the moment and pre-orders a hundred jars of the next brew. ^{ch. 64}

Together with Bai village’s white grain liquid and Xiong village’s bear gall wine, Gu Yue green bamboo wine is named among the three wines of Qing Mao. ^{ch. 117}

Fang Zheng later calls the same specialty bamboo wine and says the sole village inn is the only place that sells it. ^{ch. 177}
