The Gu stores some of the fighter’s information. The renter feeds it, but cannot alter that stored information; only Shang clan can. Hacking the rank one Gu is not hard in principle, yet Shang clan keeps a backup copy, and watchful eyes make fake records rare. ^{ch. 279}

After Fang Yuan’s first stage kill, the host Gu Master takes the dead fighter’s vine information Gu back rather than leaving it among the winner’s loot, edits Fang Yuan’s Gu, and returns it so his zero-win record becomes one win. ^{ch. 280} Later matches follow the same host edit loop: Li Ran takes his Gu back after a concession, Fang Yuan takes his Gu back from the host and reads seventeen wins and zero losses in it, and a host edits both fighters’ Gu after a same-second surrender. ^{ch. 284 ch. 289 ch. 293}
