Snake Tongue Gu is a rank two Gu that senses heat. Fang Yuan names three flaws in it while watching a scout work.
At the front of a six-man group moving deeper into a mountain forest, a male Gu Master named Chi She hisses and from time to time sticks his tongue out into the air. His tongue has a small divide and becomes the bright red forked tongue of a snake. He is the group’s reconnaissance Gu Master. He calls out three medium-sized animals suspected to be wild deer, then a group suspected to be turtleback apes, then a middle-sized creature suspected to be a white tiger. ch. 93
Effect
Fang Yuan thinks Chi She is probably using Snake Tongue Gu. He calls it a rank two Gu worm that can sense heat temperatures. Without Chi She’s warning in advance, the narration says, the group might have been caught unprepared by the tiger. ch. 93
Flaws
Fang Yuan counts three very obvious flaws. The perception radius is small, it is easily interfered with, and it cannot detect cold-blooded creatures. Even so, he judges it better than not having any detection. ch. 93
He is rank two himself now, and thinks that to survive in the wild he will also need a detection-type of Gu. ch. 93
