Gu Yue Qing Shu tells Fang Yuan that the clan has a recipe raising Liquor worm to rank two Moon Harbinger Gu and then to rank three Seven Fragrances Liquor Worm, which has the ability to refine primeval essence. Fang Yuan already holds a different route in his prior-life memory: advancing the Liquor worm to rank two Four Flavors Liquor Worm and then to that same rank three Seven Fragrances Liquor Worm, and either Gu at that step can refine primeval essence. ch. 105

On the liquor worm ladder, rank one Liquor worm purifies green copper primeval essence by a small realm, rank two Four Flavors Liquor Worm does the same for red steel essence, and rank three Seven Fragrances Liquor Worm does it for white silver essence. ch. 326
Refined in Shang clan city
Refining Seven Fragrances Liquor Worm requires two Four Flavors Liquor Worm and seven types of spices. In Shang clan city, Fang Yuan already holds one Four Flavors Liquor Worm, buys two more Liquor worms and fuses them into a second Four Flavors Liquor Worm, then fuses the two Four Flavors Liquor Worm into a Seven Fragrances Liquor Worm. That step goes smoothly, but a fusion fails while he is refining the third Four Flavors Liquor Worm and the second Seven Fragrances Liquor Worm, wasting the primeval stones spent and forcing him to buy the supplementary materials and start again. All his failures fall in these early four flavors and seven fragrances stages. ch. 326
Consumed into Nine Eyes Liquor Worm
Fusing two Seven Fragrances Liquor Worm together, with the eyeballs of nine different hundred beast kings, produces rank four Nine Eyes Liquor Worm; three days after that final fusion Fang Yuan obtains the worm, and no rank five form exists on the liquor worm line. ch. 326
