Master Duan is a rock dissecting master at a third inner city rock gambling den who specializes in using acid and has over fifty years of experience.
A clerk walks Fang Yuan through old man stones, pushing cart stones, stellar stones, and cold ice stones, then urges him to hire the shop’s dissecting masters after buying, because a wrong method can kill a weak Gu inside. He names Master Duan when pitching those masters, and says high and super grade rocks can be dissected free while low and medium cost extra. ch. 276
Acid rock dissection
When Fang Yuan pays with a purple thorn token, the shopkeeper sends a clerk to call Great Master Duan with Master Huang, Master Zhang, Master Zhao, and Master Ma. The five old masters usually leave ordinary rocks to disciples; Great Master Duan snorts coldly at being asked to dissect low grade rocks, then hurries out once he hears about the purple thorn token. ch. 277
Most of the five are rank two peak stage; great master Duan is the only rank three. Narration calls him a great expert in dissecting rocks at the den and says he specializes in acid. He fills a large bowl with acid from a snake Gu, shrinks a gambling rock in that bath, then moves it into another acid. The low grade rocks turn out to be solid rock or hollow inside, without even a dead Gu. ch. 277
