Mud core

When a soul beast dies, its corpse turns into dark grey smoke and dissipates until only a glass-like soul core remains. Fang Yuan notes the same pattern for mud monsters: a mud monster only leaves behind its mud core after death. Soul beasts, mud monsters, blood beasts, shadow monsters, and phantom beasts are all path beasts whose whole bodies contain plentiful, dense dao marks of their specific paths. ^{ch. 1503}
