Xiu Niang is the young beauty betrothed to Shen San in the fetus earth maze, whose parents favor Shu clan's young master until Shen San rises and marries her.
In the fetus earth maze Fang Yuan wakes as Shen San. An old lady says young master Shu had him beaten so he would give up Xiu Niang, and that the pair were betrothed from birth until the family’s fall left them beneath her parents’ hopes. Xiu Niang visits despite her parents’ ban, sobs over his injuries, and tries to restore his memory with ordinary scenes of their love. ch. 1541

Marriage and collapse
She has Gu Master aptitude but only C grade and low potential. Love for Shen San fills Fang Yuan’s maze life as he cultivates in secret, wins over obstacles, becomes city lord as a rank five Gu Master, and marries her on the same day. Dressed for the wedding she sits by the bed and says she knew she did not love the wrong person. When he speaks coldly of empty admiration she grows uneasy, then the maze collapses as he sighs that everything merely amounted to this. ch. 1542
